Burgundy

Coin of King Maximilian II
A principality flourishing in the 14-15th centuries near the eastern border of France. The most important ruler was Charles the Brave (1432-1477), whose daughter was Maximiliam I's wife. Thanks to this fact, after the death of the ruler (1477) the more significant, eastern part of the principality - together with the Netherlands - fell into the possession of the Habsburgs. From the middle of the 16th century it belonged to the Spanish side of the Habsburg family, and it was governed by Dutch Spanish governors.
