the château of Alvinc

Alvinc
The building, whose ground plan was a hexagon inscribed into an oval, was begun for Gábor Bethlen but never fully finished. According to an earlier hypothesis, the Duke intended the building as an enlargement or alteration of an earlier one in which György Fráter was murdered in 1551. The latest excavations, however, unearthed the remains of a Gothic friary in the courtyard of the Bethlen-building. György Fráter's residence must have been in this building, while the standing, though dilapidated, walls are all from Bethlen's time.
