Paduans

Paduans were humanists at the end of the 16th century in Transylvania, who studied in Italy at the university of Padua for a while and when they returned home they played an important role in the government, in education, and in the council of the principal. Thus they were highly respected and had a great influence on court culture. Such intellectuals were Farkas Kovacsóczy, Márton Berzeviczy and Ferenc Forgách, who were all chancellors. István Báthori's Polish chancellor, Jan Zamoyski, also studied in Padua.
