fiscal lawsuits

Coats of arms of István Illésházi and Katalin Pálffy
Show trials taken against the richest Hungarian landowners by the Court Chamber, the aim of which was to improve the financial situation of the treasury by regaining the possession of domestic animals given away. The most famous lawsuit was taken out against István Illésházy in 1603 - later he became palatine - because of regaining royal towns Bazin and Modor, which had been used as collateral. Fiscal lawsuits did a lot of damage to the court due to political dissatisfaction.
