Sigismund (Zsigmond)

He was born in 1368, second son of the Holy Roman Emperor, Charles IV and Elisabeth of Pomerania. His elder step brother, Wenceslas, inherited the Czech and German throne, and he received the marquis district of Brandenburg with the title elector-prince, which he pledged in 1388 to his cousin, Jodok, Moravian marquis. In 1386 he became the captain-in-chief of Hungary, and on 31 March, 1387 he was crowned Hungarian king. From 1410 he was German king, from 1420 Czech king, between 1433 and 1437 Holy Roman Emperor. His first wife was Maria, the second one Barbara, marquis Hermann Cillei's daughter. He had a daughter from her, called Elisabeth, born in 1409. He died in the Moravian Znaim on 9 December, 1437. He was buried in Várad.

Elisabeth (Erzsébet)

She was born around 1409, only daughter of the Hungarian king Sigismund and Barbara Cillei. In 1421 she married the Austrian prince, Albert V. They had three children. After her husband's death, she had her son, Wladislas V, crowned, then she gave him to Frederick III, who became his guardian. She failed to regain her power to rule Hungary, nor could she regain Luxemburg, which had been pledged to Burgundy. She made peace with Wladislas I on 13 December, 1442, but she died soon after on 17 December, in Győr.

Austrian Prince Albert V (as Hungarian and Czech king I, as German king II)

He was born in 1397, son of the Austrian prince, Albert IV and Bavarian princess, Johanna. After his father's death, during his childhood, his uncles became his guardians. In 1411 he was declared an adult, and became Austrian prince. In 1421 he married Elisabeth, the daughter of the Hungarian king, Sigismund. They had two daughters: Anna and Elisabeth, then after his death, a son, Ladislaus V. On 18 December, 1437 he was selected Hungarian king, and on 6 May, 1438 he was elected Czech king. On New Year's Day 1438 he was crowned Hungarian king, and on 18 March he was unanimously elected German king, but he was never crowned. He died on 27 October, 1439 in Neszmély and was buried in Székesfehérvár.

Ladislaus (László) V

He was born in Komárom on 22 February, 1440, only son of the Hungarian and Czech king, German king and Austrian prince, Albert I and Elisabeth of Luxemburg, after his father's death. On 15 March, 1440 he was crowned Hungarian king, and on 22 November German king. Frederick became his guardian. On 4 September, 1452 he was declared to be an adult. On 28 October, 1453 he was crowned Czech king, but governor George Podjebrád controlled the affairs of state in his name. He was engaged to the daughter of the French king, Charles VIII, Magdalena, but they were never married, since on 23 November, 1457 he died of bubonic plague. Tales that he had been poisoned were mere rumours. He was buried in Prague.

Wladislas (Ulászló) I

He was born in 1424, son of the Polish king, Wladislas (II) Jagello, and princess Zsófia. After his father's death in 1434 he was crowned Polish king with the title Wladislas III. During his childhood the royal council governed the country as regents. After the death of the Hungarian king Albert I, he was to marry queen Elisabeth, but his offer was refused by the queen. On 8 March, 1440 he was selected Hungarian king, and he was crowned with a temporary crown on 17 July. He died in the battle of Várna, on 10 November, 1444. That is why he received the name Várnai as Polish king.
