A side branch of the French royal family, the owners of Province Anjou in the Middle Ages. Three European ruling families had the same name, Hungary came into contact with the second one.

Jagello

He was the eldest son of Lithuanian chief prince Olgerd and the princess of Tveri, Julianna. He was born in 1351, and started to rule in 1377, at first together with his uncle, Kiejstut. He was baptised in Krakkow on 15 February 1386, and took up the name Ulaslo. He married the Polish Queen, Hedvig on 18 February. On 4 March he was crowned Polish king. He ruled till his death in 1434 under the name of Ulaslo II. The Polish-Hungarian personal union started with him. The dynasty bearing his name ruled till 1572 in Poland, the members of which ascended to the Hungarian throne twice (1440-44 and 1490-1526).

the Luxemburg dynasty

A ruling family of French origin, who received their name from the county of Luxemburg. From 1310 to 1437 they were Czech kings. Henry VII was German-Roman king between 1308-1313, then he was emperor. This title was inherited by the members of the family (Charles IV, Wenceslas, Sigismund) from 1347 to 1437, except for the period between 1400-1401. The main branch of the family died out when Sigismund died.
