He was born as Charles IV, German-Roman emperor and Elisabeth of Pomerania's second son in 1368. His elder step-brother, Wenceslas inherited the Czech and German throne. He received the county of Brandenburg with the title of chief prince, which he put in pawn in 1388 to his cousin, Jodok, Moravian marquis. In 1386 he was chief captain of Hungary, on 31 March 1387 he was crowned Hungarian king. From 1410 he was German-Roman king, from 1420 Czech king, from 1433 German-Roman emperor. His first wife was Maria (1385), the second one was Borbala (1405), marquis Hermann Cillei's daughter. He had a daughter from this marriage, Elisabeth, who was born in 1409. He died on 9 December 1437 in the Moravian Znojmo. He was buried at Nagyvárad.

Maria

Louis I and Elisabeth's middle daughter, born in 1371. When her elder sister, Catherine died she became the successor on the Hungarian throne (from 1378). In 1379 the Polish also accepted her as the heir to the throne, and then she was engaged to Sigismund, marquis of Brandenburg. After her father's death the Polish orders took an oath to her, but on 17 September 1382 she was crowned only Hungrian queen. Her marriage to Louis, Prince of Orleans, was canelled, so she married Sigismund on 1 November 1385. On 17 May 1395 she fell off a horse at a hunt and died. She did not have any children. She was buried at Nagyvárad.
