Abstract

The VoIP project of NIID has started in 2002 and the first result - the pilot infrastructure - was presented successfully at the previous Networkshop. Since the pilot, we have been mainly focusing on the introduction of NIID VoIP service, with the goal of saving on costs of telephony services, meanwhile provide new value-added services on the HBONE and utilise available bandwidth.

In first phase of the roll-out in 2003, more than 30 organisations will be connected to the HBONE VoIP infrastructure, that can be used not only traffic between the participating organisations but for calls outside the VoIP network.

To provide competitive service for the organisations, the implementation required to address all aspect of the service development including legal, regulation, financial, purchasing, technical, operational and organisation issues. The presentation summarises results of the VoIP project achieved in the last year: development of the billing system, design and set up of the VoIP infrastructure, work-out of the financial/business framework and interconnection with telco's.
